History & Heritage Of Trinity Mother Frances

It Began With A Calling to Serve and to Heal

In the 1930s, the Sisters of The Holy Family of Nazareth recognized the need for a hospital in Tyler, Texas. Working with far-sighted physicians and city leaders, the Sisters transformed their vision for a modern medical facility into reality. From the first day the hospital opened on March 18, 1937—one day ahead of schedule to care for victims of the New London School explosion—the mission has not waivered: to provide community health services with compassion, excellence and efficiency.

In 1934, The Trinity Clinic began as The Bryant Clinic.  It was founded by two general practitioners, Dr. William Howard Bryant and Dr. Sidney W. Bradford. The Bryant Clinic received the first call for help in Tyler to treat the victims of the New London tragedy. In 1948, The Bryant Clinic changed its name to The Medical & Surgical Clinic. Today, Trinity Clinic is the area's preferred multispecialty medical group, with over 250 physicians and mid-level providers representing 37 specialties in 36 clinic locations serving east Texas.

Our Journey: From Humble Beginnings to National Renown

For nearly seven decades, a tradition of compassionate care has guided our growth. In 1995, Mother Frances Hospital merged with the area’s largest physician group, Trinity Clinic, creating one of the nation’s first integrated health care systems, designed to meet the needs of east Texans for generations to come. Our commitment to excellence has been recognized by numerous national awards for quality health care, including designations as a 100 Top Hospital for Performance Improvement by Thomson Healthcare (2006); National Benchmarks for Success award winner by Soluticient 2006; HealthGrades 2007 Distinguished Hospital Award for Patient Safety; winner of the 2007 Texas Health Care Quality Improvement Award; designation as a Blue Cross and Blue Shield Distinction Center for Cardiac Services and for Bariatric Services; National Research Corporation Consumer Choice winner; and among the top five percent in the nation for patient satisfaction by Press Ganey, Inc
.

Preferred in the Region

Working closely together, physicians and administrators of Trinity Mother Frances have built the region’s preferred health care provider, known for clinical excellence. Recent consumer research shows that Trinity Mother Frances Hospitals and Clinics are both leaders in preference and market share for the primary and secondary markets.

Trinity Mother Frances is committed to providing medical care, education and service to communities in a variety of ways, from free education, screenings and health fairs to nationally recognized programs such as the FamilyCARE Center, which was created to fill an unmet health care need for underserved women and children in the region.

The technology at Trinity Mother Frances is cutting edge, rivaling or exceeding that of any major medical center in the United States. Our internationally recognized cardiology program, advanced surgical capabilities and innovative neurological services are examples of how our organization provides both high tech and high touch care to patients of all ages.

We offer a complete range of services, from women’s and children’s to trauma, rehabilitation, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, cosmetic surgery and more. A growing number of medical clinics staffed by full-time medical doctors and mid-level practitioners provide primary and specialty care in Tyler and throughout the region.

Trinity Mother Frances Hospitals and Clinics are licensed by the Texas Department of Health and accredited by the Joint Commission of Healthcare Organizations. Trinity Mother Frances is accredited by the Texas Medical Association for awarding Continuing Medical Education (CME) credit, and hosts a variety of monthly seminars and several non-serial events throughout the year to provide physicians opportunities to obtain their field-specific CME requirements.

Strategic planning and operations are focused on five pillars of excellence relating to the areas of Customer Service, Quality, Financial Performance, People and Growth. The entire organization including physicians, all levels of management and front line employees work together to achieve the same goals.

In July 2005, Trinity Mother Frances implemented a tobacco-free policy on all of our campuses in order to protect the health of all patients, visitors and employees.
